The honorary duty of a human being is to love. (Maya Angelou) With Abena’s love for the human body and nature, she is able to create textural creations inspired by the physicality of spirituality.
Abena was born and raised in West London. Expressiveness permits Abena to portray self-love and self-embodiment into her creations. Abena's work is an expression of love.
Her creations are also derived from her travels to different countries, exploring different cultures, which she then emanates as a visual reference in her drawings, illustrations, and paintings.
When people view Abena’s work, she wants people to feel the texture and body through the naked eye. She wants them to experience the warmth and optical beauty of the naturalistic features associated with Abena’s creations.
Art Journey
Abena’s love started through Textiles, the different processes there and recognised this is where her passion lies. Abena’s interest grew, through her adornment for wanting to create and experiment with the varying processes.
She attended the University of the Creative Arts, Farnham, where she graduated in Textiles, Print. It was when Abena studied at University that she was influenced by the essence of the environment.
Abena’s final project was based on the destruction of the Coral Reef; this is where she created paintings using ink and transformed her creations onto cloth, creating a wearable art fabric.
Through Mixed Media and untraditional techniques, Abena is continuing her journey of experimental creations and producing bespoke pieces of work.
